How to Become a Successful Rapper

Nowadays it seems like everyone and their mother wants to join the chain of being a rap idol, but going from being an underground artist to becoming a hip hop superstar can be nearly impossible if the right steps aren’t taken to make big things happen.
Make Good Music, Obviously: If you have been told you suck multiple times and no one downloads your music maybe you should try a different career path. However, there is a difference between being told you suck and having haters. There is a HUGE difference!!!!

Don’t Be Like Everyone Else: Thinking outside of the box and giving listeners something different from other rappers will make you stand out and it will give people something they never heard before. How do you think Tupac became a legend? Don’t try to duplicate other artist’s careers. We don’t need another Nicki Minaj or another Wale. They already stand out. Give the people something NEW!

Collaborate With Everyone You Can: Collaborating is a great way of networking because if you collaborate with people that are well known you can gain a bigger fan base. Also, collaborating with people of different genres can help you as well.  Even opening up for other underground musicians can help get your name out there.

Use Social Media: Social media is the wave of the future and it is a great tool to use to connect with other musicians and to promote yourself. Post links to different songs, mixtapes, YouTube videos, etc. to get your name and your music out in the open for people to grasp. Both Facebook and Twitter are a necessity because they offer what each other lacks. There is no limit of characters on Facebook and you can’t make fan pages on Twitter. Twitter allows you to use hash tags to make it easier for people to see your links and it allows you to increase followers.

Build Up a Team: It’s not always what you know it’s who you know and by having the right connections you can build up your brand.  If you don’t have time to tweet or post on Facebook find someone that does and that can constantly update things for you or use www.HootSuite.com which can send tweets or update your Facebook for you when you aren’t able to.

Do Covers of Songs:  By doing covers of songs you can tag the name of the original song and original artist in the video, so yours will come up and you can subtweet it. The more exposure the better.

Perform at Venues: Research the web to find out where you can go and perform, so people can get a feel for your energy and your music.

Promote Yourself or get a Promoter: T-shirts, flyers for upcoming performances, spreading the word about events all help get the word out about what you are trying to do

Freestyle Battle: Not everyone can freestyle, but if you can and you know a hot spot where you can find someone to battle you and another person to beat box, you should get a crowd together and battle it out.

Practice Makes Perfect: Practice to perfect your craft and to be the best at what you do, success requires a lot of patience and hard work be willing to work hard and to keep believing in yourself and your craft.

Everything I posted is legit these are not things that I just pulled out the “Wa-Zu”, these are things that I have researched and found that they can be beneficial. Of course I put things in my own words and put my own spin on them, but this will help you.  P.S. I haven’t got my Communications degree yet, so I am not going to give you information that I just came up with. Hope this helps J!
